Red Potatoes

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

There is a restaurant in Umatilla Oregon that just opened recently called Divine Dining. My husband and I have been frequent visitors and today was no exception. We were heading into town to run errands both personal and for my office and stopped for breakfast. You almost have to eat there if you are in the area.

They have the best food including roasted red potatoes with garlic. They serve the food on large plates. They use large coffee cups and glasses. I love this. It means the waiter doesn’t have to work so hard or bother you too much by running back and forth to your table for refills. I have always hated it when they come over to ask you questions about the food or can they get you anything just when your mouth is full. Tony the waiter seems to have the knack of knowing when to come over and when not to.

They also have the best service, fast, friendly and knowledgeable. Right there when you want them to be but not overbearing. Their prices are very reasonable too. Now for the food. I cannot say enough good things about it. This morning I had the divine breakfast, which consists of two eggs, your choice of meat; mine was bacon, rye toast and those wonderful potatoes I mentioned earlier. Hubby had a four-egg omelet with tons of goodies in it. For drinks, we had milk and coffee. I personally do not like the brand of coffee they use; yes, there is one thing I don’t like about the place, (smile) so I have the waiter put in a shot of Irish Cream espresso. That makes a good morning wakeup drink.

We have eaten dinner there a time or two also and you will not regret that meal either. They have a very good selection on the menu and then just when you think you are full, they offer you a wide variety of fresh baked goods for desert! I am talking about all kinds of chocolate goodies, pie, Pavlova, Crème Brule´ and more. I personally don’t like chocolate, (yes I’m crazy-or so I’ve been told) LOL but I always seem to find something I can’t live without and Hubby is a chocoholic so he makes up for what I don’t want!

What does all this have to do with a business? Well, Customer Service of course! I cannot stress those words often enough. So many times, I go into a business and am ignored or worse. There is always slow and rude to look forward to at some places. I will never go back to a place twice that was rude or had horrible customer service. In a world where many people expect everything without putting any effort into the job, it is refreshing to find businesses that know how to take care of their customers.

The same and more goes for an online business because your prospective clients cannot see your face so you need to go the extra mile in welcoming them to your site and then take care of them once they do make contact with you. Try asking what you can do for them instead of the other way around for a change and see what happens. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised! I have to tell you that without great customer service, your web presence will not last and you most assuredly will not prosper financially or make many friends. I am relatively new at being online in a business but know that this is the #1 rule. What are your thoughts on customer service and a local business that you think deserves kudos?

    Vicky,

    I am with you. I always go with the company with the better customer service…unless the price difference is substantial.

    There’s a lot to be said about a business that makes sure their customers are satisfied.

    Absolutely. I watch the prices also. You have to in todays world but the service really means a lot.

    My mouth is watering! I’m a sucker for red potatoes and big breakfasts, too. :)

    I’m always a little surprised to hear people complain about the USPS because my local office has such exceptional service. The staff moves things along quickly so you’re not waiting in line all day, and I’ve never NOT been greeted with a smile and a kind word. I’ve had oddball questions at times, too, and no one ever misses a beat getting them answered. Our carrier is just the same way.

    Incidentally, customer service was the subject of one of my January 2008 newsletter articles: http://www.adminmaven.com/wordwise.htm .

    Yes folks do complain about the USPS a lot but our local one is great also. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Maybe it’s just the big city ones that need help? :}

    I agree fully with you there Vicky. In fact, in today’s ‘cut-throat’ business competition, it is no longer an issue of brand or product differentiations but of how well you have served your customers’ needs and wants.

    Great post here!

    Cheers!
