I find it rather patronizing that this fact is included in the CNN story: "Americans are shouldering a record $2.5 trillion in debt." Isn't it sweet (and convenient) that individual debt is cited but not national debt. How many trillions is that up to now???

I'll grant you that maybe I don't have a reasonable grasp of the economic principles behind this stimulus package. Or maybe I'm just a pessimist at heart. But I fail to see how the creation of new debt--that's all this is, borrowing against future tax to fund today's payments--will help stimulate the economy.</description>
