Tax Rebates

Are they serious? A story about the checks that will start coming out in May is on Google news from CNN.com today. Just be sure you read it all. Like the part where it will come out of your refund next year!

Yeah, no kidding, they give with one hand and take with two.

I will probably regret getting into a debate about politics, but here I go anyway.

I find it rather patronizing that this fact is included in the CNN story: “Americans are shouldering a record $2.5 trillion in debt.” Isn’t it sweet (and convenient) that individual debt is cited but not national debt. How many trillions is that up to now???

I’ll grant you that maybe I don’t have a reasonable grasp of the economic principles behind this stimulus package. Or maybe I’m just a pessimist at heart. But I fail to see how the creation of new debt–that’s all this is, borrowing against future tax to fund today’s payments–will help stimulate the economy.
